DC fans have been patiently waiting for a release date on Jack Snyder’s cut of Justice League ever since May 2020 when Snyder himself confirmed the film was coming to HBO Max. Now the wait is almost over as HBO Max announced the legendary version will premiere on March 18, 2020 with the official title Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
The announcement came with the debut of three new teaser posters.
Production on this new version reportedly includes a budget of around $30 million and features the participation of several of the original Justice League film’s cast, including Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Ray Fisher, Ezra Miller, and Jason Momoa.
“Since I got here 14 months ago, the chant to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut has been a daily drumbeat in our offices and inboxes. Well, the fans have asked, and we are thrilled to finally deliver. At the end of the day, it really is all about them and we are beyond excited to be able to release Zack’s ultimate vision for this film in 2021. This could never have happened if it weren’t for the hard work and combined efforts of the teams at HBO Max and Warner Bros. Pictures,” Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, Warner Media Entertainment and Direct-To-Consumer said earlier this year.
In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.
Of course, we’ll have to wait until March 18 to know if this new edit is a better version of Justice League, but it’s already clear it’ll be a longer version. Variety reported that the new edit will be available in a miniseries format, with four, one-hour sections on HBO Max. Fans will also have the option to view the film as a single, four-hour movie.
Concurrent with the premiere on HBO Max in the U.S., the DC film will be available exclusively on HBO services in Europe across the Nordics, Central Europe, Spain, and Portugal as well as on the HBO GO service in Asia. In Latin America the title will premiere exclusively on HBO Max when the service launches in the region later this year.
