Yesterday, Discovery CEO David Zaslav commented during the company’s Q3 earnings call that he was “very surprised” to see Discovery channels on T-Mobile’s low cost streaming plan, Vibe, but not the more expensive Live packages. NBC and ViacomCBS quickly joined Discovery in sharing their issues with the way T-Mobile has chosen to distribute content. By including channels in some plans but not all, sources say T-Mobile is in breach of contract. Now, T-Mobile is responding to the claims.
A T-Mobile spokesperson sent the following statement to Cord Cutters News.
“TVision is off to a great start! The Un-carrier has always been about listening to customers and solving their pain points, and that’s what we’re doing with TVision. And clearly, the TV business has a lot of pain points to solve! We also want to be a great partner to media companies. We are of course complying with our content agreements, and we are absolutely open to evolving our services to make them even better for consumers. We are just getting started.”
During the T-Mobile earnings call yesterday, T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert commented on the situation, saying the company is “complying with all their media contracts” and working with each of the companies who have reached out to express concerns, to find a solution that will be “great for customers.”
TVision launched just last week. Within the TVision app, users can choose between the affordable Vibe package with 30 channels for $10/month, or one of three TVision Live packages, starting at $40/month.
