Roku Reaches 53.6 Million Active Accounts

Roku announced its Q1 2021 financial results Thursday,
showing a 35% rise in active accounts to reach 53.6 million by the end of the
quarter. 2.4 million accounts were added in Q1.

The company also reported an increase in streaming time.
Roku reported 18.3 billion hours of streaming in Q1, up from around 17 billion
hours in Q4 2020.

Roku revenue was up as well, with 79% growth year over year,
beating industry forecasts. After being down $55.2 million last year, Roku came
out ahead in this earnings report with $75.8 million in operating income.

Roku recently began rolling out an OS update, giving customers automatic WiFi network detection, Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support, an instant resume feature, customizable features on The Roku Channel, and more features to improve Roku player performance. At the same time, Roku unveiled its new device lineup made up of an Express 4K, Voice Remote Pro, and Streambar Pro.

Days later, Roku announced that it will launch Roku Originals, a label for original content from the brand that will kick off with content acquired from Quibi.
