Netflix has had its fair share of binge-able content which propelled viewers through the pandemic last year. The streaming service recently revealed Emily in Paris was its top comedy series for 2020. The Lilly Collins-starring series was renewed for a second season shortly after the first season wrapped.

In the first 28 days after it launched in October 2020, Emily in Paris was watched by 58M people, more than any other new comedy series on the streaming service that year. In comparison, The Witcher accumulated 76M views in the same time period after its launch, and the hugely popular Shonda Rhimes period drama Bridgerton had 82M.

Emily in Paris found success as a light-hearted, half-hour show that’s easy to watch, although it did receive some negative reactions for its depiction of French people and culture, token diverse characters, and oversimplified story elements like Emily’s easy road to becoming a social media influencer just by posting selfies and pictures of croissants.

However, despite those small details, the series received multiple award nominations including a Golden Globe nom for best comedy or musical series, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for Lilly Collins. The series is co-executive produced by Darren Star from successful shows like Sex and The City and Younger, so you can bet there’s plenty of style, fashion moments, and memorable escapades.
