With the preseason coming to an end this past weekend, kickoff of the 2021 NFL Regular Season Opener is just around the corner. The last week of the preseason saw the majority of starters play the first half throughout the league in what many call a “dress rehearsal” for the upcoming season. The preseason finale is the best preview of all the players for the regular season and for scouting fantasy football teams.
Trades, injuries, and disappointing play make up some of the key takeaways following the last week of the preseason. After playing below expectations throughout the preseason, the Panthers released kicker Joey Slye. The Ravens will be without starting RB J.K. Dobbins after he suffered a knee injury during their preseason finale. Their AFC North rivals Cincinnati Bengals appear to have some offensive dysfunction, as QB Joe Burrow threw his one and only pass to rookie WR Ja’Marr, who dropped it, which is something he’s continuously done throughout the preseason.
Some positive notes include QBs Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes picking up where they left off by flawlessly leading their offenses down the field. Rookie QB Trevor Lawrence is living up to the hype after closing out the preseason with 11/12, 139 yards, and 2 TDs in a 34-14 win against the Cowboys. He’s joined by another rookie with an impressive game, as Patriots RB Rhamondre Stevenson’s had 5 rushing TD, which is the most in a preseason game since 2017.
