Amazon Fire TV Expands Live TV Feature to 200 Free Channels

Amazon announced today an update that will bring even more content to the Fire TV live channel guide. The guide currently includes free content from Tubi and Pluto TV, along with the option to add content from subscriptions to services including YouTube TV, Philo, and Sling TV. Now, Amazon is integrating more free content from IMDb TV, XUMO, and Amazon News.

Users will now find over 400 live streaming channels from nearly 20 providers available in the Fire TV live channel guide, with over 200 of them available for free with ads.

More than 400 live streaming channels from nearly 20 providers can now be accessed through Fire TV’s live channel guide.

IMDb TV, XUMO, and the Amazon News app are now fully integrated
into the app, and Plex will be added soon. These are all free services, so users
will see more content without any subscription costs. You can find the lineup on
the Live tab, in “On Now” rows, and the Universal Channel Guide for customers
that have downloaded the app.

Along with the new channels, Amazon shared that live TV is
now Alexa-enabled, allowing users to use voice commands to open specific
content, for example, “Alexa, play Good Morning America.”

Also, live programming will appear in the “App Peek” feature with the new Fire TV interface design. For those with a Fire TV device that has gotten the update, you can hover over an app in the main navigation to see what’s on and navigate to the programming more quickly.

The App Peek feature is currently available on Fire TV Stick (3rd gen) and Fire TV Stick Lite. Support for additional devices is coming this month when more devices get the interface update.

“We’ve always taken a content-forward approach
when designing Fire TV. When you turn on your TV, you’re going to see shows,
movies, and sports — not just rows of apps. This philosophy extends to our
approach to live content,” said VP & GM of Amazon Fire TV, Sandeep Gupta.
“We’re continuing to invest heavily in Live TV and so are our content partners.
We’re expanding that today with the addition of new integrations, Alexa
capabilities, and enhanced content discovery mechanisms.”
